APPLICATION NUMBER: 1011412

Paramont Contura, LLC, 5703 Crutchfield Dr, Norton, Virginia 24273 is applying to the Virginia Division of Mined Land Reclamation (VDMLR) for a Revision of Permit No. 1102158 and NPDES Number 0082158 to add approximately 45.68 acres to the existing coal surface mining and reclamation operations.

The additional mining area is in Dickenson County approximately south of Duty. The existing and proposed permit area is situated at latitude 37º 04' 05” and longitude 82º 09' 02” on the Duty7.5' USGS Quadrangle. The permit area being added is situated the headwaters of Tiller Fork and Cane Creek. The Revision Map showing the existing and proposed amended area is attached in Section 21.1 of the application. Surface drainage from the amended area will be controlled by existing Pond 7, 7A, 7B, 10 and 13. These ponds will discharge into Tiller Fork and Cane Creek. The discharge location of both ponds may be viewed in the Surface Water Hydrology Map, which is attached in Section 21.2 of the application.

A copy of the draft NPDES permit and fact sheet are available for public inspection and comment at VDMLR's Big Stone Gap office.

Any person with a valid interest which might be adversely affected by this proposal, or an officer or head of any federal, state or local government agency or authority, may within 30 days of May 10, 2023 submit written comments or objections concerning this bond reduction, and may also request, in writing, that the Division of Mined Land Repurposing hold an Informal Conference concerning this application.
