Sheep field day, private treaty sale is June 5

The Dickenson County Extension Office, in cooperation with the Coalfield Sheep Association will be holding a Sheep Field Day and Private Treaty Sale on Saturday, June 5 at 10 a.m. at the Coalfield Agricultural Center located on Red Onion Mountain. We have some exciting topics planned including sheep equipment needed for your flock health program, evaluating rams for breeding soundness before the breeding season, sheep feeds and minerals for your flock, and a Small Farm Outreach Program update. We will also discuss future marketing strategies and other items of interest.
Our guest speakers will be Dr. Chris Fletcher, Washington County Veterinary Service, Amanda Fletcher, Virginia State University Small Farm Outreach Program Assistant, and Todd Dishner with Performance Feeds.

If you are interested in participating in the Private Treaty Sale and would like to consign up to 3 ewes and 1 ram, contact the Dickenson County Extension Office at 926-4605 by Friday, May 28 for the complete treaty sale rules. You must be a member of the Coalfield Sheep Association to consign sheep.

This program will also serve as a membership meeting for the Coalfield Sheep Association. Dues for the year are $20 (or $35 for a family). You will receive a hat, and a meal will be served (at no charge), so please call the Dickenson County Extension Office at 926-4605 by Friday, May 28 to register. Please join us and bring your favorite dessert to share, if you like.
