Glenda loved her family. She loved to cook and took pride in feeding everyone she knew. She was an accomplished quilter, crafter, and gardener and loved growing flowers and preserving garden goods. She was a “red hot Republican” and supported the local party with fundraising and hauling voters for many years. Glenda was a charter member of the Sandy Basin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was the leader of Girl Scout Troop 309 for eight years, Camp Fire Inc. for four years and volunteered with Girl Scout Troop 140 for the past nine years. Glenda was a fixture at Longs Fork Elementary School having her “children” almost continuously in the school from 1967, when the school opened, until 2008, where over the years she became known as “Mamaw” to hundreds of children providing cupcakes and watermelon for countless events. Glenda loved education and instilled the values of hard work and education into her children. She attended Clintwood High School and obtained her GED. She was very proud to have all five of her children graduate high school and obtain college degrees. Three of her children graduated with perfect attendance for all 12 years of primary and secondary schooling. Three of her children went on to graduate with Juris Doctorate degrees and one with a Master’s Degree in Counseling. Her parenting style can best be described as an iron fist wrapped in a velvet glove. Her values of hard work and education will forever be embedded into her family and community.
