JANICE EMMA COUNTS

Janice Emma Counts, age 79 formally of Haysi passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at her home.  Born in Dickenson County she was the daughter of the late George and Carrie Taylor Thomas. She was a Haysi High School graduate, a member of the Primitive Baptist Church, a homemaker and last employed as a cafeteria clerk at Sandlick Elementary School and a teacher’s aide at Ervinton Elementary.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Counts; a daughter, Suzette Counts; three sisters, Roxine Childress, Marlene Burzinski, Novella Childress and one brother, Danny Thomas.

Survivors include her son, Greg Counts of Meadowview; daughter, Terrie Counts of the home; grandson, Joshua Heath (Lorin) Counts. Meadowview; great-grandson, Jentry Counts; brother, Frank (Edna) Thomas, Bristol, Tn.; sister, Evalene Thomas, Seattle, Wa.; mother-in-law, Irene Counts, Birchleaf, and sister-in-law, Diana (Willard) Owens, Birchleaf.

Funeral Services were held at 12 p.m., Friday, January 27, 2023 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders, Roger Fuller and Jimmy Counts officiating. Burial followed in the Dewey Sutherland Cemetery, Lick Creek Road, Haysi. Family and friends served as pallbearers.  The family received friends after 11 a.m.  on Friday prior to the funeral service.
