GARY PAUL DINGUS

Gary Paul Dingus, age 78, went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 16, 2023, from his home surrounded by the people he loved most.
Gary was born February 11, 1945, to Paul and Nina Dingus. He was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County and graduated from Clintwood High School, where he was known for his ability to play on the football field and gained the name of “Big Daddy Dingus”. He proceeded to get his bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky. He spent many years running coon hounds all throughout the county and raising cattle and tobacco on Rose Ridge. Gary devoted 30 years to being Dickenson County’s extension agent, where he impacted people across the state. He served Dickenson County on many boards, appointments and committees. Gary loved listening to Ralph Stanley, eating Brenda’s cooking, and spending time with his family.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Nina Dingus, and two infant brothers.
Survivors include his loyal companion of 55 years, Brenda Dingus; two sons, who he was extremely proud of, Matthew (Missy) Dingus and Jason (Jenni) Dingus; seven grandchildren who were the light of his world, Jaelyn Dingus, Montgomery Dingus, Jaecey Dingus, Marshal Dingus, Jaeda Dingus, Megan (Logan) Austin and Dylan Dockery; two great-grandchildren, Hudson and Hayes Austin; two sisters, Brenda (Howard) Long and Nancy (Doug) Baker; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 7 p.m. at Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with Gary Mullins officiating. Visitation began at 5 p.m. Family and friends were requested to meet at Clintwood Funeral Home on Thursday, October 19 at 12:30 p.m. to proceed to Rose Hill Cemetery, Rose Ridge, where a graveside service was conducted at 1 p.m. Pallbearers were Montgomery Dingus, Marshal Dingus, Charles “Chuck” Baker, Howie Long, Ben “Arvil” Long and Brad “Hoop” Mullins. Honorary pallbearers are Thomas Deel, Jarvie “Jay” Owens, and Lowell Perry. Online condolences may be given at www.clintwoodfuneralhome.com.
