Jimmy Ray Hearl, age 74 of Crooked Branch passed away peacefully on May 1, 2024 at Norton Community Hospital with his family by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Eula Barton Hearl and brother, Jerry Hearl.

Retired from Dickenson County Behavioral Service as a Substance Abuse Counselor. He loved his job and trying to help other people. He was a talented woodworker and an avid gardener. He loved sharing his fruits and vegetables with family and friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with nieces and nephews whom he thought of as grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Wilma; children, Wendy of Kingsport, Tn. and Jay of Church Hill, Tn.; one brother, Glenn (Donna) Hearl; one sister, Sharon (Ray) Carty and several nieces, nephews and friends

A Funeral service was conducted 7 p.m. Friday May 3, 2024 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders, Garnell Gilbert, Roger Fuller and Billy Campbell officiating. The family received friends after 6 p.m. prior to the service. A Graveside service was conducted at 11 a.m. May 4, 2024 at the Viers Cemetery, Clinchco with Elder Noah Kim Edwards officiating. Nephews served as pallbearers, Cameron, Ashton, Colton and Aaron. The funeral procession left the funeral home at 10:15 for those wishing to follow.
