ALPHA GRACE HAWKINS

Alpha Grace Hawkins, age 79, passed away Friday, June 7, 2024 at Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Ky. Alpha attended Clintwood High School and was a graduate of Mountain Empire Community College. She was a member of Pioneer Art League and the Extension Homemaker’s Club of Dickenson County for many years, serving in leadership roles in both organizations. Alpha was of the Christian faith. She was a loving wife, mother, and nana.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harrison and Lexie Bryant; infant daughter, Diana Carol Hawkins; daughter-in-law, Judy Kaye Hawkins; brother, Charles Bryant; infant sister, Georgia Mae Bryant; sister-in-law, Nancy Bryant; and brother-in-law, Joe Keith.

Survivors include her loving husband of 61 years, Doug Hawkins of Clintwood; sons, Wade Hawkins of Clintwood, Wes (Melissa) Hawkins of Kathleen, Ga.; daughter, Teresa (Scott) Mullins of Clintwood; grandchildren, Jessica (Wes) Dotson, Rebekka Jacobs, Faith Mullins, Gracie Hawkins, Brittany (Jess) Ramey, Jonathon (LaShae) Mullins and Andrew (Sabrina) Mullins; brothers, Thomas (Betty) Bryant of Luray, Bob (Juanita) Bryant of Roanoke, Paul Bryant of Stanley, and Ike (Willie) Bryant of Clintwood; sisters, Nina (Dan) Stiglitz of Louisville, Ky., and Judy Keith of Berea, Ky.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Alpha was multi-talented. She was an avid artist and had an extraordinary talent for crochet, knitting, quilting and weaving baskets. Her biscuits and sweet tea were legendary and a crowd favorite at family dinners and various events. She loved to read and was a frequent patron of the Jonnie B. Deel Memorial Library.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Serena Stanley, who helped provide exceptional care for Alpha.

Visitation was held Saturday, June 8 from 1-3 p.m. at Clintwood Funeral Home, followed by a brief service at 3 p.m. Burial followed shortly after in the Hawkins Family Cemetery, Hawkins Farm Road, Clintwood. Family and friends served as pallbearers.
