Roger Orbin Powers passed away at Johnson City Medical Center on June 13, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Roger was born on May 27, 1952, to the late Hudson Powers and Onnie Sturgill Cassell.

Roger was a 1971 graduate of Clintwood High School. He was a lifelong coal miner and truck driver, CB handle “Bootsie”, who made many friends over the course of his career. Roger was an avid fisherman who enjoyed spending time on the lake with friends and family and, although he was generally quiet, he would squeal with delight when he had a fish on the hook. When not on the lake, he loved to watch any form of racing, and was particularly a fan of NASCAR and Chevrolet race cars. He also loved to fly remote controlled airplanes and helicopters in his spare time. Roger was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, taking them on “adventures”, and going to their ballgames and recitals. Roger enjoyed family get-togethers and he particularly loved family dinners. Roger was the best “Papaw” and we all “sure did love him.”
