CLURCY JANE BAKER

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Clurcy Jane Baker, born May 24, 1928 in Clinchco and passed away on August 23, 2024 in Norton, at the age of 96. She was the daughter of Andy Floyd Wood and Lula Stanley Wood and a sibling to nine sisters and five brothers. She was the beloved wife of Oakley Barton from May 24, 1947 until Oakley’s death on June 17, 1989. They had three children Danny Barton (deceased), Elder Gerald Barton, and Barbara McCowan. She was a beloved Granny to her five grandchildren including Ben Barton, Sandy Barton (deceased), Bo Barton, Daniel McCowan, and Brooke Bias. She was the beloved great-grandmother to eight great-grandchildren including Daniel Adkins, Brian McCowan, Garrett McCowan, Hannah Barton, Lydia Barton, Phoenix Bias, Elizabeth Barton, and Abigail Barton. She was the beloved wife of Otis Baker from June 9, 1990 until his death in December 2009.

Jane lived a full and long life. She joined the Sandlick Primitive Baptist Church on May 21, 1972. She was baptized by Elder Henry, Franklin Viers, and Bobby Mayhorn. She loved going to church. She enjoyed raising her children and helping raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting and sewing. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

A Funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2024 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Roger Fuller, Noah Kim Edwards, and Jim Duty officiating. Burial followed in the Morgan Turner Cemetery, Clinchco. Pallbearers were Ben Barton, Bo Barton, Daniel Adkins, Brian McCowan, Garrett McCowan, and Jared Bias. The family received friends at the funeral home on Sunday, August 25 after 6 p.m. where an evening service was held at 7 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
