Arthur Sweeney age 79 of Bartlick Road passed away Thursday, October 31, 2024 at his home. Born in Haysi he was a son of the late George L. and Melster Mullins Swiney. He was last employed as the owner/operator of a water well drilling company. He was of the Freewill Baptist Faith and attended Guiding Light Community Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Hubert Wayne Sweeney and Matthew Sweeney and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife Melster; one daughter, Lavada (Randy) Muncy, Haysi; one granddaughter, Katie Sluss, Haysi; three great-grandsons, Johnny Coal Stanley, Jasper Case Sluss and Jensen Cash Stanley, all of Haysi and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was conducted 11 a.m. Sunday November 3, 2024 at Haysi Funeral Home with Eddie Street officiating. Burial followed in the Sweeney Memorial Cemetery, Haysi. Pallbearers were Victor Wallace, Johnny Stanley, Randy Muncy, Tom Swiney, and family and friends.
The family received friends after 6 p.m. at the funeral home Saturday, October 2, 2024 prior to a song service at 7 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
