John F. Dotson age 94 passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2024 at his home. He was the son of the late Kinney and Lillie Dotson. A lifelong resident of Clintwood where he was a graduate Dickenson Memorial High School, afterwards serving his country in the US Army, going overseas in 1950. Returning home to Clintwood in 1953, he worked with Dotson Brosthers Coal company, worked briefly with Virginia Probation Department until he went to college at ETSU. After graduation, he worked for Dickenson County School System until retirement. John was an avid football fan, player and coach, playing on teams in High School, U. S. Army and College. He coached the Ervinton High School team to the first winning season at the time, most importantly, he was dedicated to the education of students and the balance of life and activities. John was a supporter of the community from school functions, Fire Department and Rescue Squad donations and other worthy charities. A member of the Clintwood Baptist Church. John loved time spent with family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Kay Meade Dotson; a stepson, Myron Meade and wife Julia of Austin, Tx.; special friends, Doug and Denise Strouth, and several nieces, nephews and other relatives he loved dearly.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday November 16, 2024 at the Clintwood Baptist Church with Lynn Vanover officiating. In lieu of flowers the family request all donations be made to the Little League Charity of their choice. Online condolences may be given at www.clintwoodfuneralhome.com.
