Billy Joe Turner, age 84 of Road Branch, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at the Hospice House in Bristol, Tn., after a long and courageous battle with multiple myeloma and other health challenges.
Billy was born on December 14, 1939, to Orbie and Rosie Turner of Clinchco and his remarkable life spanned 84 years, 11 months, and 2 days. He was a 1957 Haysi High School graduate and last employed as a coal miner.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Virginia Turner; his loving son, Kendrick Joe Turner of Roanoke; and his daughter Gaylup Deel and husband Samuel Deel, of Big Stone Gap. He was the proud grandfather of Joshua Turner, Whitney Jenkins, Easton and Aymes Deel, and Kendra Turner, and a cherished great-grandfather to Joseph and Jessa Turner. Billy also leaves behind his brother, Dennis Turner, and sister, Myrlene O’Quin, as well as three special nieces, Jennifer Owens, April Jackson, and Leighanne Hayes. A close family friend and neighbor, Timmy Owens, also held a special place in Billy’s life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Lee Turner and one sister, Jerelene Turner.
A Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m., Wednesday November 20, 2024 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders, Darrell Newsome and Eddie Newsome officiating. Burial will follow in the Turner Cemetery, Clinchco. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family received friends after 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at the funeral home where a service was held at 7 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
