GREGORY ALLEN STANLEY
November 25, 2024
Our Papaw, Gregory Allen Stanley, became fully healed on the morning of Thursday, November 20 after a 3 year battle with dementia. He was born July 25, 1951 to Cline and Alice Stanley. On November 28, 1970 he married our future Mamaw, Rita Jean Fleming. They had two sons, our dad, Rodney and Uncle Randell.
Papaw had a great love for his power tools, which he passed down to my Dad and Robbie. In fact, Papaw’s favorite thing to do with Robbie was show him how to use them and started buying him leaf blowers, weed eaters, and electric trimmers before he could spell his name. Papaw also had a great love for competing with Santa at Christmas. Mamaw always cooks a great dinner before we open gifts on Christmas Eve and papaw might let us take two bites before he jumped up, ran to the tree and started handing out gifts. He was so proud of the fact he bought my first car, a pink Barbie Jeep when I was 3. Whether it was a tractor or a car in a random parking lot that I had no business driving, I guess I have him to thank for being such a good driver. My papaw always taught me that I would never learn if I didn’t put myself in situations that made me uncomfortable and it’s something I’ve lived by since the day he started preaching it in my ear. Other than my Mamaw, whom he remembered to his last day, his greatest love was for the salvation he gained from accepting the Lord into his life in 1996. Papaw received a calling to share his love for the Lord in 1997. Papaw’s last evening was actually spent giving sermons to his caretakers at Heritage Hall. To his last day, the Lord and Mamaw were the two constants in his head and heart.
My papaw was preceded in death by his parents, Cline and Alice Stanley; a brother, Randy, and sister, Ginger.
My papaw is survived is by my Mamaw, Rita Jean Fleming Stanley; two sons, Rodney and my mom, Laura; Randell and his wife, Denise; stepson, Jonathon; and me, his favorite granddaughter, Claudia; his favorite grandson, my brother, Robbie; one sister, Penny; one brother, Phil; his special aunt, Royal Inis Salyers (Aunt Iney), and all of his church brothers and sisters in Christ, whom he loved dearly.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Willie Stanley officiating. The family received friends from noon until service time. Special music was provided by the Rachel’s Chapel Singers. Burial followed immediately after the service at the Monroe Stanley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Monroe Stanley Cemetery Fund, c/o Royal Ines Salyers, 723 Little Brushy Road, Coeburn, Va., 24230.
