PHYLLIS MILDRED GIBSON
December 10, 2024
On Sunday December 8th, 2024, our beloved mother and nannie, Phyllis Gibson went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in her heavenly home. Our nannie faced many challenges beginning as a child and continuing as an adult, but by the mercy and grace of God was an over-comer, full of resilience, being one of the toughest women we have ever known.
Phyllis was born on January 3rd, 1935 in Pound, to the late Opal Whitt and Haskel Stallard. She was raised by her grandparents, Pearl and Colbert Meade. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Fleming and her late husband, Hubert Gibson (Poppie); brothers, Gurvis Mullins, Clyde Mullins, Stuart Whitt, Jimmy Whitt, Dewey Whitt and Ronnie Whitt; sisters, Betty Belcher, Norma Bryant, Mary Maggard and Gerri Sturgill, and step-son, Allen Gibson.
Survivors include her sons, Randy (Denise) Beverly, Ronal (Cheryl) Fleming; daughter, Connie (Kenneth) Fleming; step-daughter, Elizabeth Mullins; step-daughter in-law, Alice Gibson; grandchildren, Kelly (Kara) Fleming, Aaron (Paula) Fleming, Tyler (Caylee) Beverly, Paul Fleming, Randi (Kemper) Beverly, Doug (Alicia) Gibson, Beth (Jason) Gibson, Valerie (Jason) Mullins; great-grandchildren, Presley, Hattie and Pearl Fleming, Hudson, Harper, Hannah and Henry Fleming, Adyn Beverly, Oliver Edwards, Samuel Tipton, Madelyn, Chase and Gage Moore and Dorothy Gibson and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
She worked for 20 years in the cafeteria at Longs Fork Elementary School and those memories she cherished for many years.
Nannies life could be summarized in one word, servant. She loved serving her family and she loved serving others. Her purpose in life was always making sure that everyone else was taken care of, fed, clothed and loved. She was the most selfless person, always the last to eat and the first to clean up.
The greatest part of Nannies story began in 1996 after being faced with a serious medical issue. This led to her understanding of the gospel and trusting and believing on the name of Jesus Christ. She was baptized alongside of Connie, Ronal and Kelly by Pastors Greg Cyphers and Lynn Vanover at Valley View Church. This already selfless woman was born again and became filled with a faith and a love, never wavering. To know her, you loved her but her mission was not to be loved, but to make you know you were loved by her.
While our hearts hurt because we have a brief time that we will not hear her voice or hold her, we are beyond joyful that she is in Heaven with Jesus awaiting our arrival. We are grateful for her life, her love, her example and the prayers she prayed for her family and friends that are still alive today.
A Funeral Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Valley View Freewill Baptist Church in Clintwood with Kelly Fleming and Greg Cyphers officiating. Family and friends will meet at Valley View Freewill Baptist Church at 2 p.m on Thursday, December 12, 2024 for prayer and a procession to the Charlie Soward's Cemetery in the Flemingtown Section of Clintwood for a graveside service. Pallbearers will be grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be given in honor of Nannie to St. Judes Children’s Hospital or one of the “Little Indian Schools” both to whom she supported faithfully.
Matthew 25:21 - His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. Online condolences may be made at www.mullinsfuneralhome.net.
