ROAD UPDATE

February 01, 2026

Snow Removal Update (As of 4:45pm Saturday)
All snow removal equipment, including VDOT crews and contracted operators, has been fully mobilized and working across the county since approximately 8:00 PM last night.
Crews have focused heavily on primary roadways to keep them moving and passable. We are beginning to see progress, including areas of black pavement, and this work will continue throughout the day and into the evening. Due to the potential for high winds and drifting, crews are pushing snow back as much as possible to reduce re-accumulation.
If snowfall tapers off as expected, a full effort on secondary roads is anticipated to begin tomorrow. Extremely cold temperatures tonight may limit how much snow and ice can be removed.
 Salt Supply Update
Rumors circulating on social media that the county and VDOT are out of salt are not true. We have an adequate salt supply. During periods of heavy snowfall, crews prioritize plowing with intermittent salting, as continuous salting during active snowfall is ineffective and simply gets plowed off the roadway.
Subday Update:
Road Conditions Update (As of 1pm Sunday)
VDOT crews continue to work primary and secondary roadways today, actively scraping and treating roads across the county.
However, extreme cold temperatures will reduce the effectiveness of treatment, and many roadways remain partially covered and not fully clear.
Motorists are urged to use caution, especially on secondary roads and in areas prone to drifting. Thank you for your patience as crews continue working around the clock.
