Walter Ralph Beverly, age 80, of Cumberland, passed away on April 5, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Ralph was born on June 2, 1945 in Dickenson County to Walter Ray Beverly and Mary Edith Elkins Beverly. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Ruth Palmer, James R. Beverly, David E. Beverly, Hazel Browning, Betty Phipps, and Rita Mullins.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Rita Beverly; his children, Brian Beverly (Bridget), Crystal Madison (Joseph), Credena Hatcher (Michael), and Cody Beverly (Matthew); and his cherished grandchildren, Robert Kirsh, Jada Harris, Brandon Beverly, and Cadence Hatcher. He also leaves to cherish his memory, a sister, Joyce Watson, several nieces, nephews, brothers-and-sisters-in-law, and many dear friends.
For more than 25 years, Ralph, affectionately known as Mr. Beverly, devoted his career to teaching Mathematics at Cumberland Public Schools, where he inspired countless students with his humor and dedication to learning. In addition to his time in education, he worked at Bear Creek Lake, Watson & Duggan Land Surveying, and volunteered at Delma’s Pantry, always bringing diligence and pride to every task.
An avid outdoorsman, he found peace and purpose in nature. He spent much of his time hunting, fishing, gardening, working on carpentry projects, and caring for his animals. His love for the outdoors and his willingness to lend a helping hand will be remembered by all who knew him.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to Oak Hill Mennonite Church and its congregation for their unwavering support, prayers, and kindness during this time.
A service to celebrate Ralph’s life will be held 12 p.m.. Wednesday, April 8th, 2026, at Oak Hill Mennonite Church, 93 Oak Hill Rd, Cumberland, where family will receive friends from 11 – 12, with the interment to follow at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Cartersville Rd, Cumberland. Please dress in comfortable attire.
