HERMAN YATES

Herman Yates, age 69, of Haysi, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2020 at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, Tenn. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Tilden and Louannie Yates. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, he was a miner and member of UMWA Local #7170. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Jerry Yates and Troy Yates, sisters, Sylvia Jean Yates and husband, Huley and Margaret Deel and husband, Bruce.
Survivors include his wife, Evonne (Cookie) Yates; a son, Kevin (Stephanie) Yates; a daughter, Tara (Marty) Potter both of Haysi; grandchildren, Aiden, Autumn, Connor, Walker, Jozee, Gabby, Kenzie, Dalton, Dales and Melody; brothers, Lonnie (Fayger) Yates, Billy (Jeraldine) Yates and Danny (Margie) Yates; sisters, Ponzella (late Carter) Owens, Sadie (Auty) Deel and Brenda (Jackie) Yates and sisters-in-law, Joyce and Sue Yates.
A visitation was held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, at the funeral home adhering to Covid restrictions of 10 at a time. Graveside services were conducted on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Yates Cemetery, Greenbrier with Elder Danny Yates officiating. Visitation began at 1 p.m. Pallbearers were Marty Potter, Ryan Belcher, Cody Billiter, Jody Sykes, Josh Blankenship, Michael Deel, Nicholas Yates and Ronald Blankenship.
