First snow

The weather changed from fall to winter just like that! Everyone, including the rose, was surprised by the first snow of the season. It melted away quickly but should be a preview of the future. Wayne Riner of Long Ridge measured .4 of snow with a temperature of 30 degrees. Wayne Riner photos

Prep plant refuse raises resident concerns

The Virginia Department of Energy last week presented a $300,000 grant to Breaks Interstate Park for construction of a new swimming pool. The funding comes from the Abandoned Mine Land Economic Revitalization program. The new pool is expected to increase park visits, add nearly $100,000 in annual revenue and create five to seven seasonal jobs. PROVIDED BY VIRGINIA ENERGY
